New Delhi: In Doc talk this week, nutritionist Ritika Sammadar takes you through a list of summer foods that could help you beat the heat.
Here is what she has compiled: Rather than just having water to prevent dehydration you could make it more exciting with drinks like nariyal pani, lemonade and shikanji to provide you with salts that the body loses through sweat.
And 10 glasses of fluids is what you need per day. Milk, milk shakes, cold coffee and lassi would also help a lot.
Remember that fizzy drinks actually dehydrate you further. Next up, is your choice of fruits. Not all fruits are your best friends.
For example watermelon has a cooling effect while having more than two mangoes per day increase the body heat.
However, you could make it more interesting by making milk shakes especially for children.
Third is to go green! More vegetables mean more vitamins and a healthy digestive system. Instead of fatty and fried foods have salads at least once a day.
Tofu, sprouts, paneer are good protein options. Do not have cut fruits on the roadside. Make sure you wash your vegetables properly.
Preserve your food carefully. And last but not the least do not eat anything straight out of the fridge.
Don’t have too much of cold things as they contract your arteries and over a period of time it effects your gut, liver, kidneys.
