However there is no single substance of food that can ward off illness, says the American Cancer Society.
Doyle adds that she does not know which of these antioxidants and phyto chemicals are more protective and this is the reason why people are supposed to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday.
The American Dietetic Association on the other hand, advises people to have vegetables like broccoli, spinach and romaine. These protect your eyesight and the immune system.
