New Delhi: On a calm summer day in 1991, the bustling Lokhandwala Complex in Mumbai became a virtual war zone when ACP AA Khan opened fire on five underworld gangsters residing in a building in the area.
This daylight encounter lasted six hours and became the inspiration for a film that's simply titled Shootout at Lokhandwala, and donning the role of the ACP Khan is Sanjay Dutt.
"It was a very interesting incident that happened few years ago. When people spotted gangsters and called the police," says Dutt.
Also leading the cast of characters is Vivek Oberoi who plays Maya Dolas the gangster who was shot dead in the encounter, Tushar Kapoor who reprises the role of Maya Dolas's right hand Dilip Buwa, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan and Arbaaz Khan who play cops as part of the team which surrounded the Lokhandwala Building during the encounter.
And Amitabh Bachchan makes an appearance as a slimy lawyer. After films like Parzania and Black Friday, Shootout at Lokhandwala too comes as the celluloid reconstruction of a real incident.
Shootout At Lokhandwala which hits theatres on 25th May, marks a comeback attempt for actor Vivek Oberoi and director Apurva Lakhia, both of whom are looking for a hit to up their career graphs.
