New Delhi: Biographer Andrew Morton’s latest work on Tom Cruise has stirred up a hornet’s nest.
Titled Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography, the biography made its way to the bookstores on Tuesday and has been selling like hotcakes despite angry denials of allegations by 'The Church of Scientology' which forms a major subject in the book.
Cruise, one of the most prominent celebrity Scientologists is touted to be the second-in-command of the Church that was founded by L Ron Hubbard.
And a few videos leaked on the Internet indicate that he is very good at promoting it too.
"We are the authorities on people's minds, we are the authorities on improving conditions and criminals. We can rebuild the criminals, we can bring happiness and we can bring peace," says Cruise.
Cruise's current wife, Katie Holmes became a fellow Scientologist after being linked to him.
However, according to Morton, Katie still seems at sea standing amongst the members of the so-called 'cult', which has been accorded the status of a religion in some countries.
"Months before she was just an ordinary aspiring actress. And here she was a few months later standing up with the rest of the Scientologists as they hail the destruction by bombs and grenades of psychiatry. Whether you agree with psychiatry or not, it is an extraordinary turn of events that one minute you're the average Midwest girl, the next, you're cocooned in this odd group," says Morton.
And when there are Hollywood celebrities involved, controversies just have a way of flaring up.
So it was alleged that the founder of Scientology-L Ron Hubbard fathered the couple’s child, Suri.
She doesn't look like either of them. She may be bought or rented.
Even it Cruise's link with Scientology may not have gained many converts the controversy that comes with sure seems to have got it enough attention.
