New Delhi: Over years, she made news with her now-on-now-off relationship with celebrated writer Salman Rushdie.
And now former supermodel Padma Lakshmi is hitting the headlines because of another liaison.
Freshly divorced from Rushdie, Padma has teamed up with Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan for a campaign to spread HIV/AIDS awareness in India.
The duo graced an HIV/AIDS awareness programme in the Capital recently. The event was a lyric-writing contest aimed at what the organisers called "lending your voice" for a cause.
Aimed at those aged between 14 and 25, the chosen lyrics will be set to music by some of the country's well-known composers and released in the market.
At the launch Khan said, "The youths need to be educated about HIV. Parents should not hesitate in talking to their children freely about issues like AIDS." Khan will contribute some special compositions for the cause.
Padma, the host of the hit US reality show Top Chef, filed for divorce in July this year, three years after tying the knot with the famous author.
Since then, rumours mills have been abuzz that the duo split because she cheated on Rushdie with Princess Diana’s former suitor Ted Forstmann.
