New Delhi: If the art bug has caught up with you but you still can't afford those canvases, here's a solution "”invest in art prints.
Some popular types of art prints include lithographs and etchings but the one's that's really selling these days is serigraphs.
Serigraphs are made by the screen-printing method and cost only five per cent of the price of the original work.
"When we are talking of artists prints, serigraph and lithographs are not photographic reproductions. This gives the collector a multiple original unlike photomechanical press. That takes care of colours and intensities and the artist supervises everything," says the owner of Serigraph Studio, Lavesh Jagasia.
Here are a few things you should remember while buying serigraphs:
Composition and colours should be close to the original
No breaks in pattern
Every print accompanied by a certificate of authenticity
Fresh signature of the artist over the print
The only drawback of serigraphs is the absence of texture. The key to identify a serigraph print, for instance one of an original work of crayons, is to see whether the characteristic texture of crayons is not visible. If not and if it's a smooth surface, it is a print.
Currently, artist Jogen Chowdhury's prints are up for sale and cost only Rs 27,000 each.
"A particular painting or an original work can go to only one person. But a serigraph print can go to 100 people. So, that possibility is created by graphic prints," says Chowdhury.
