You need to lose all that weight and tone up but can't afford the crazily expensive gyms? Getting in shape can be an expensive proposition when you consider the cost of health club memberships and expensive exercise equipment.
But now, you have an option. Fitness expert Vesna Pericevic Jacob says that it's a much cheaper option to build a gym at home - all for under Rs 10,000 with a few very carefully selected inexpensive pieces.
One favorite piece of equipment is a swiss ball. Made of brightly colored synthetic vinyl, the 21 to 25 inch inflated ball is the latest fitness prop.
Doing resistance training at least twice a week in combination with an aerobic workout or separately can enhance motor control and balance skills by challenging the muscles which stabilise the body .
The swiss ball is extremely affordable and costs between Rs 1000 and Rs 3000. One can even pick up a pair of lightweight dumbbells for toning and strengthening muscles without making a huge dent in the wallet.
Cost doesn't have to be a roadblock to exercise. If you think a fancy treadmill will cost you a lot then maybe you can substitute it by using less expensive exercise equipment like Aerobic steps.
Twenty minutes on the steps and you will get a similar yet more effective workout than on a treadmill.
The steps are easily available at most sports goods stores and cost from anywhere between Rs 3000 to Rs 7000 approximately.
They are lightweight, compact, easy to use and also easy to store.
To tone up your upper body your aerobic workout with crunches on the medicine ball for a more challenging workout.
Branded medicine balls are available for approximately Rs 2,000 in sports stores. Even a simple skipping rope to improve coordination balance and overall strength of the body is a good buy for a home gym.
If the goal is to get in shape without spending a fortune, just invest in a pair of good sport shoes and a skip and jog your way to good health.
