Chandigarh: They say faith can move mountains. The head of Gurudwara Khadoor Sahib in Punjab couldn't manage that, but he has made a difference.
Baba Sewa Singh and his followers have planted over one lakh trees in the last eight years, with the help of local farmers and landlords.
“People are more sincere towards an emotional cause. And everyone has done all they could to keep this project going,” says the Baba.
The 47-year-old Baba embarked on this mission after one day, while travelling, he couldn't find a shady tree to rest under.
Since then his followers have launched a project to plant trees along a 250-km stretch. To achieve this, they are using 10 water tankers and hundreds of workers, all managed without any paperwork.
What more, people who seek the Baba's blessings are given a sapling, which one could say, is a fitting prasad.
“People know how much difference this project has made. If you talk of birds, peacocks that had left our orchards have started returning,” says a resident Subedar Balbir Singh.
They say you don't have to seek directions to reach Gurudwara Khadoor Sahib.
Just find and follow the tree-lined roads and they will all converge at the House of God.
Such is the devotion leading to greening of hundreds of kilometers of Punjab's roads.
