Mumbai: If you thought the Railways are about no frills, here's Western Railway with an all new story. The next time you're on the Shatabdi Express, just reach under your seat, pick up the headphones and switch on the TV set to get your daily dose of news, entertainment and movies.
The Railways hope to earn Rs 5 lakh in the first year and the passenger loyalty is an added bonus. The passengers are upbeat about the feature.
"Its difficult to handle kids on train. So with cartoons playing, there'll be no worry," says a passenger Munish Kumar.
There are over 400 TV sets that have been installed in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express as part of the trial run.
As part of the scheme, one can even tune into the news and programming of the TV 18 network, with only a half-hour delay in the news broadcast, which will be updated at every major railway station.
But it may not be a smooth ride just yet because unlike on a plane there is only one programme that has to be watched by all passengers at a time and the screen is to be shared with your neighbour.
