New Delhi: The grey streaked hair and trembling hands of the Colonel Brijlal Verma and his wife Uma Verma might have a lot to say about their age, but the couple’s love for each other has definitely not aged with time.
Eighty-one-year old Brijlal Verma swept the 72-year-old Uma off her feet 50 years ago on a yacht in Pune.
And as destiny would have it, the two tied the knot in a traditional Hindu marriage in Meerut a few months later.
"There was a lot of commonness between us," says Col Brijlal.
A former Civil Engineer with the Indian Army, and a retired teacher, the couple still have a lot to share with each other, specially when it comes to revisiting old memories.
And with both sons settled abroad, the two now have enough time to celebrate, go out on coffee dates and still find some space to complain. "He just loves to buy fruits," says Uma.
And after 50 long years of togetherness, the two still have reasons to hold on to each other. "He brought security in my life," says Uma.
So this Valentine's Day, besides the flowers and cakes, the Verma couple shares their mantra of sustaining a relationship.
"You should know your partner well," says Col Brijlal. Uma adds, "Adjustment is very important."
