Neelu Vyas, New Delhi: If your height is as good as the roof of your house how do you survive—meet a 20-year-old who is 8.5 feet tall and still growing.
You might look at him and recall the giant of the popular book Gulliver's Travels. But he is a real persona. When Vikas kumar of Rohtak walks, he looks at the world from a height of 8.5 feet, almost like looking down from the roof. He claims to figure in the Limca book of records but says his world is dark and sad.
“I am really upset about this abnormal height. I face a lot of problems for being tall. I cant walk properly cant fit into places,” says Vikas.
Son of a poor farmer, Vikas has always seen a hand to mouth existence. His height has always been a drawback as he says he requires 11 meters of cloth to cover his body. Footwear is especially tailor-made for his size, which is a little more than 20 inches. He drinks 5 litres of milk every day, which is hard to afford. So how does he survive?
“Politicians call me during elections to attract crowd. But my value is no more than that of a crowd puller—a spectacle for everyone,” he says.
Does he blames his genes for the abnormal height? Surprisingly, everyone in Vikas's family is no taller than average 5.6 feet. Doctors say Vikas has a rare disorder - where he has developed a tumour in his Pitutary gland, which leads to unrestricted growth leading to a condition called gigantism.
Most people look like a Pygmy when they stand in front of Vikas. But that is just the lighter side to his story. Once his pituitary gland is extracted he will be relieved of his pain. We wish him a speedy recovery.
