Shweta Ganesh Kumar, Bangalore: Suresh is happiest when he's with his handy-cam, filming his classmates and team members Swati and Rakshita.
The trio are budding filmmakers whose first documentary Rakshita's Story has been chosen for the Kids for Kids Festival 2007 in Naples.
It's no mean feat for these children who are from very poor backgrounds; Suresh's father is a plumber, while Swati's father is a carpenter.
"I would surely make documentary films on social issues mainly wasting, paper wastage, plastic, and especially child labour," says Suresh.
The protagonist of the movie is Rakshita, the 13-year-old daughter of a security guard, who had to drop out of school in Class IV. And it’s her story that the three children tell the world.
"It’s not just a story of mine, it's a story of many children in Bangalore. So at least people are going to see it through my film. We're going to be seen all over the world," says Rakshita.
And the making of the film has changed their lives forever. "Before they could do this project, they didn't have this kind of confidence or anything but after getting involved. There was a lot of change in their personality. They've gained lots of confidence," says Blessina Cyril, a teacher at Christel House.
From the outskirts of Bangalore to Naples, Rakshita's story has traveled a long way and these children hope it is the first step towards fulfilling their other dreams and ambitions.
