Each time the season changes you worry about catching a cold, which you do eventually! Unfortunately, there is no sure cure for the common cold. All you can do is try these home remedies to help you get better.
Here are 10 home remedies for the common cold.
- An important thing to do while you have a cold is to blow your nose as often as you can instead of sniffing the mucus back in.
- Boil water; add some lemon juice and a tablespoon or two of honey. Let it cool for a bit. Drink it when it is still warm. Do this two to three times a day. Lemon is good for a cold as it increases body resistance.
- Garlic is good for colds. Boil three to four cloves of garlic in a cup of water and drink it like soup once daily. The oil in garlic helps open the respiratory passages. It flushes out all toxins from the system and also brings down a fever, if you have one.
- Add salt to warm water and put 2-3 drops in your nostrils in the morning and before bed. This will keep your nasal passage moist and also help in thinning the mucus. Once the mucus is thinned, make sure to clean it at regular intervals.
- Warm a small bowl of mustard oil and add four five cloves of chopped garlic to it. Put it on your nose, chest and back just as you would put a balm. It is best to put this before going to bed, after you do, cover yourself and sleep.
- Boil a cup of milk and add a tablespoon of pepper powder and a pinch of turmeric to it. Add sugar to taste. Drink it once a day for about three days.
- Take some ginger juice and add equal parts of honey. Heat this concoction and drink it while it is still hot.
- If you drink tea, then add ginger to it while you boil the water and then add tea leaves. If you have tea more than once, then you can do the same every time you have tea.
- Boil water in big bowl and add thyme (ajwain) leaves. Now place your face above the boiled water and cover your self with towel. Inhale the steam for about 10 minutes. Do this before going to bed.
- The most important thing to do when you have a cold is to rest. When you rest, your body boosts the immune system, making way for a quick recovery.
These home remedies will bring you some symptomatic relief or quicken recovery. But in case your cold stays for a longer period than it should, consult your doctor!
