Opening up a neatly arranged drawer full of bra and panties and socks and kerchiefs each morning can be a pleasure and a time saver.
Here are some simple tips to organise and maintain your daily inner wears.
Step 1: Out with the Old
Your first job is to dump all the lingerie out on the bed. Why? Because you need to declutter before storing them.
And the process is simple. Just two piles - things to keep and to throw away. No maybes and no give aways.
What to throw out: Anything that has lasted more than a year is hygienically a no - no. Apart from that, bras or panties that have stained, ripped, snapped, or spotted with holes.
Also chuck out the ones whose:
- Colours have faded
- Straps are about to snap or the hooks are broken
- Elasticity has gone or is in the process
- It doesn't fit anymore properly
- And it is uncomfortable. That is the bra rides up, or the panty is ill fitting.
Step 2: In with the New
Lingeries are private matters and how much you prefer to own is a personal preference.
For the minimalist at least a few sets of cotton panties and bras are enough. But if you plan to simplify further then you need:
1. Atleast seven pairs of plain, comfortable everyday lingerie to get you through the week without having to wash it everyday. Get a couple of seamless bras to wear with T-shirts. Get at least 2 pairs in black, white, and a nude.
2. Special kind of lingerie's to be worn with specific dresses. Such as a strapless bra for formal occasions.
3. Also keep a pair of pretty lacy ones in different colours for those romantic evenings.
4. For panties some of you may prefer to buy matching ones for every bra. However, a black, white and a nude shade is a must have in your wardrobe.
5. Also have a pair of knickers, which offers you freedom from panty lines.
Step3: Organise
Once you have cut down your lingerie collection and filled in the gaps, it is time to create a storage system that will make it easy for you to locate things.
Don't have the luxury of having a chest or drawer dedicated to lingerie and socks etc?
The secret to success is to divide your drawers using acrylic or wood. If that is not possible, then fold and place your lingerie's in separate covers. Either mark them or use different coloured covers for bras and panties and socks.
Bras
- If you have a colour coordinated bra and panty, then place those ones separate.
- Otherwise separate your bras into black, white, nude and other shades. Organise them by style and fold them to conserve space.
- If you hit the gym regularly, then fold and place them separately.
Panties
- If you have your panties coordinated with your bras, then fold it and place it inside the cup of your bra and then fold and place it separately.
- Keep your matching sets together, like the lacy or the frilly ones and the plain cotton ones separately.
- Again, place the ones used for gym separately.
Socks
- To keep from losing a pair, keep each pair tied or clip them.
- Separate them on the basis of colours, such as the whites together, and the blues together etc.
Whichever way you go, the idea is to keep it simple and laid out so that your mornings aren't spent rummaging through the entire wardrobe. Organise them in such a way that it makes you feel pretty each time you look at your lingerie.
