We give you 10 most important things you need to keep in mind when you buy your new frames.
So make sure you cross check the following check list.
Eye Examination
The first thing that you have to do before buying any glasses is take an eye examination.
Dr. Quresh Maskati, Consultant Eye Surgeon says, "Make sure you get a thorough eye check-up done before you buy any glasses as you may be suffering from eye diseases such as cataract and not be aware of it. In such cases your eye would require special care."
For Kids
You have to be doubly cautious when you are buying glasses for your kids.
Swapnil Parab, Optometrist, Lawrence and Mayo says, "As a rule for kids always buy glasses that are made out of plastic and not glass. Since kids are likely to play about and have cuts and scrapes every now and then, specs made of glass can break and harm your kid's eyes."
Eye Glass Frames
Dr. Keki Mehta, Ophthalmologist, Mehta Eye Institute, gives you an entire load down on the important factors to keep in mind while going for your eye glass frames.
The first thing is to make sure that the frames you choose are suited for your prescription.
For example, a strong prescription should not be put with a rimless frame - this is especially true if regular plastic lenses are chosen. The lenses will overpower the frame and appear awkward.
Second, ask yourself, "Do the frames fit your face? Are they a good, snug and comfortable fit?"
And finally, you need to think about the durability and aesthetics involved. What materials are in those frames and how durable are they? Titanium will maintain its shape and fit much better than nickel.
What about style? Will you walk out really feeling good about the way you look in your new glasses?
For example, there is huge resurgence of plastic frames these days. It's a fun, retro look that dates back to the 1950s and 1960s.
Fit of the Frames
According to Dr. Mehta, the frame's size is most important. You have to match the frames correctly to the face.
But you also have to be sure that the nose pads fit snugly against the nose so that the glasses don't slip, and that the temples fit the ear closely. Refuse to accept new glasses until the fit feels absolutely perfect.
Progressive Glasses
According to Dr. Maskati, if you are above 40 and have to set in front of the computer for prolonged periods of time, it is advisable to wear glasses with progressive lenses rather than bifocal ones.
Unlike in bifocal glasses with progressive ones, you can focus your eyes with multi distances and not sprain your neck trying to read on the computer.
Field of View
Another thing to keep in mind is that the centre of your glasses should be at the exact centre of your eyes. "If not, you might get headaches or have mild vision problems," says Swapnil.
Also, you may be taken by the latest fashion but make sure that it covers your field of view.
Swapnil says that your field of view should not be disturbed in anyway while you are wearing glasses. You should be able to see the complete picture without having to make any effort.
