Here are some simple suggestions to ease eyestrain
Your eyes are under strain, if you experience:
- Burning
- Tightness
- Sharp or dull pains
- Watering of the eyes
- Blurred or double vision
- Headaches
The signs and symptoms can differ from person to person depending upon the case.
Eyestrain is commonly found among people who:
- Suffer from hypermetropia (long-sighted).
- Have astigmatism (blurred vision due to an irregularly shaped cornea).
- Are above 40 years of age as the eye muscles tend to get lax with age.
- Are required to read or look at a T.V. screen or monitor for a long period of time.
- Have an inadequate diet, especially one that is deficient in Vitamin A.
- Read in poor or dim light.
Quick Relievers
- Blink your eyes frequently. It wets your cornea and washes out any impurities. Blink at least 20-30 times per minute.
- Splash your eyes once every hour with cold water. This will relieve strain and soothe your eyes.
- Drop a little lubricating solution like CMC, which is a tear substitute and helps clean the eyes.
Soak Up the Sun
Sunlight, especially in the morning can help relieve eyestrain and even heal eye problems.
Close your eyes and stand facing the sun for about 10 minutes or more, between 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
If you are pressed for time in the morning, then try colour therapy. Fill a green bottle with water and place it in the sun for a whole day. At the end of the day, use this water to wash your eyes. It helps relieve eyestrain and stress.
