How to Dress for Colleague's Wedding

It has been a long time since you both have been working together and now it's time for her to tie the knot.
Your colleague belongs to a different religion and you have no idea about the customs and traditions. Don't be confused, here are some tips to keep in mind while you are deciding what to wear…

- If you are going to a Catholic wedding avoid wearing a white gown. You might steal the bride's thunder.
The bride usually wears a white gown, as it symbolises purity. So think of a different colour for your dress. - At a Hindu wedding black is considered inauspicious. It can be worn for the reception but not for the wedding ceremony. You can go for shades from a red family such as pink or orange.
If you are newly married yourself you can even wear red, which is usually worn by the bride. - You sizzled in that short halter necked dress at your friend's birthday bash at the most happening disc in town.
But don't think of wearing that for your colleague's wedding. Make sure you don't expose at the wedding, it may be inappropriate to wear that to a wedding ceremony.
You may even hurt someone's religious sentiments if you wear that to a temple or any other religious place. - Avoid dressing over the top. Go for a semi-formal outfit instead of a heavily embroidered outfit.
A salwaar-kameez or chudidar would be a better option than a ghagra-choli. Keep the embroidery simple, go for sequin work rather than zardozi. - Avoid chunky jewellery. Since you are wearing a simple outfit, keep your jewellery simple too.
In some religions such as Pentacostals you don't wear jewellery to a wedding. So check this with your colleague. - In some religions such as the Tamilian Brahman, fake or imitation jewellery is not accepted.
So make sure you wear real jewellery even if it is a simple chain. But if you don't want to wear real jewellery don't deny the fact. - Wear shoes that are comfortable and are easy to get in and out of. If the wedding is in a temple such as a Sikh wedding you will have to take off your shoes and enter the temple. If you are going to a reception there might be a long queue to get on the stage to wish the couple.
