But remember to take extra care of yourself at the workplace. Here are some tips to keep in mind.
Tell the Boss
The first thing that you have to do is to inform your employer about your pregnancy. You can choose to tell him as soon as you come to know or after the first trimester.
Let him know when you are likely to go on leave. Discuss working part-time or working from home (if you are too tired). Also, ask him if you could leave a little earlier so that you can beat the rush hour.
Dress Code: Comfy!
Always wear comfortable and loose clothing. You want to breathe freely, not get constricted. Wear comfortable, flat-soled shoes. Avoid high heels as much as possible.
Be Prepared
Morning sickness is the bane of every pregnant woman's existence. So keep a towel and gum or lime handy. Smell or chew on the lime whenever you feel nauseous.
Some smells can be overwhelming while you are carrying. The food that someone has brought to office, the air freshner, somebody's perfume could all cause you to throw up. Whenever this happens, take a walk or politely ask them to go eat someplace else.
Rest Easy
Seating is very important when you are pregnant. Get an adjustable chair where you can fix the height and armrest as you wish.
Get a couple of back cushions or pillows to support your lower back.
Try to reduce stress with deep breathing exercises and some basic yoga.
Eat Healthy
Drink a lot of water. Keep a bottle at your desk and keep refilling it. Go to the bathroom as often as you need to.
Eat regular meals and have nutritious snacks in between. This helps prevent a drop in blood sugar and morning sickness. Avoid junk and fried foods.
A Little Help from Your Friends...
Your colleagues will want to pamper you at this stage. Don't let your pride come in the way. If there is work that requires a lot of moving about, ask your colleague if she could help you out.
Take an odd sick day or two off to make up for lost sleep. Don't feel guilty about it, you need the rest. After all, you are not only taking care of yourself but your baby too!
